FDM 3D PRINTING
3D printing is revolutionizing the production process, placing itself as an alternative to industrial production, allowing for limited print runs and lowering the costs of prototyping.
Among the various 3D printing technologies, Al Canal has decided to work with FDM printers, to make 3D printing accessible to everyone, from students to companies.
The fields of application are numerous: architecture, design, mechanics, objects and much more.
The material we mostly use is PLA, a polymer obtained by processing maize, easy to print and with a glossy finish, with mechanical characteristics similar to PET.
The 3D file will need to be optimized for 3D printing. Following are the main features:
VOLUME: The model must be formed by solids, without the presence of planes or lines. the solids, as such, must be closed on each side.
MANIFOLD: The solids will have to be manifold, that is to have an inside and an outside: a corner cannot be shared between more than two faces.
NORMAL: All faces of a solid must be oriented correctly, otherwise it will not be possible to distinguish the "inside" from the "outside" of the object.
